Wainwright and Whetley Debate

A big thank you to the teachers and children of Wainwright Academy who visited our school on Friday. The children of Class 5P and 5W relished the opportunity to get to know Wainwright pupils and thoroughly enjoyed the debate, which ended as a draw. Below is a brief clip of the excellent debate which showcased the speaking skills of both classes.

Whetley eco-warriors

The wonderful nurture team helped tidy the streets of Whetley last week and even appeared in the Telegraph and Argus!

LITTER picking youngsters from Whetley Academy have been out and about keeping their neighbourhood clean and tidy.
They swapped their desks and schoolbooks for high-vis vests and litter-picker sticks to give streets near their school in Whetley Lane a make-over, ridding them of rubbish.
The pupils got a helping hand from teachers, council workers and Toller ward Labour councillors Arshad Hussain and Fozia Shaheen.
The academy’s Nurture team leader Tom Nowakowski said more groups of pupils would be going out litter picking during the year supporting the school’s slogan, Work in the Community, Serve in the Community.
“It’s just one of many ideas to come out of our Nurture Room to care for our community. It’s an important lesson.
“They really enjoyed it this week, especially knocking on residents’ doors asking them to clean up their gardens! They are our eco-warriors,” added Mr Nowakowski.
